kingston... flooded?

today saw the heaviest rainfall combined with the strongest gusts since the day i arrived in kingston.

which leads from earl street where harkness is to union street which is the main spinal east-west road through queen's, was

a) flooded ---> my immediate thought after seeing the water spreading from sidewalk to sidewalk and ONTO both sidewalks along the whole stretch of road between earl and union. pedestrians were stepping stones and jumping from porches to porches of houses along the Ghetto to walk the length of the road.

b) "overtaken by puddles" ---> monique's description of the road. aussie take on the collection of surface runoffs from the sidewalks which produced the above-described lake alfred.

which immediately made me wonder if the pap did such a good job with drainage in singapore that we take water-free roads on rainy days for granted, when there are SOOO many rainy days in singapore, with rain worse than today's in kingston. and every puddle which overtook the road became a flood to us.
